The Artist

I started painting for the first time in 2021.
We moved to a new home & there was a beautiful painting on the wall. We loved the artwork & asked about it. The price was out of reach. I still thought about the painting. One morning on a walk enjoying the beach I had an impression: the same One Who created that artist’s perspective created mine. He also created whatever beauty we might imitate with a brush. It was a nudge from God to me to consider painting; I recognized a thought not my own. I acted on the idea & the result surprised me just as much as anyone else--my first wave painting which will hang in our living room forever. I tapped a gift I never knew I had. I believe that, had I never gone to God to ask “Who am I and why did You make me like this?” I think I would have lived and died and never thought to paint. I have found profound joy, beauty and relaxation along the journey. It is a passion I share with my three girls who are better artists than me—they consistently teach me. Art is a gift to me first. All I can do is respond in worship to the original Creator, Who is more beautiful, kind, intentional, and intimate than I ever dared hope for. I surrender it all to Him & trust Him with whatever echoes from that. I hope it will bring joy and encouragement to your spaces as well.
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:9-10 ESV
